According to the reports received by
the “Human Rights Activists for Democracy in Iran” (HRDAI), the political
prisoner Afshin Baymany went on a hunger strike on objection to lack of medical treatment and
inhuman conditions of jail that is applied against him.
On Saturday December 22, 2012, the political prisoner Afshin
Baymany on an objection over the inhuman conditions and harassments that are
applied against him by the prison officials and lack of medical treatment announced
that will go on 5 days of hunger strike in the first stage and will continue
further steps in case his legitimate demands are not fulfilled.
Political
prisoner Afshin Baymany is suffering from several diseases
including the heart problems due to brutal tortures by the Vali-al-Faghih interrogators
during and post initial detention period. The judiciary officials have
prevented him from receiving medical care until today meanwhile depriving him
from taking vacation for treating himself.
Political
prisoner Afshin Baymany is spending for 13 years now in Mullahs’
prison under inhuman conditions. He was first arrested on charge of supporting
the Peoples Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI also called as MEK) and
convicted to death sentence; however, the sentence was then reduced to life
imprisonment due to widespread protests by international human rights
organizations and activists. Political prisoner Afshin Baymany is married and
has 2 children. Dictatorship regime of Iran murdered Mehdi Baymany, Afshin’s
brother during his arrest.
Human Rights Activists for Democracy in Iran condemns imposing inhumane conditions
against the political prisoners and depriving them of medical treatment which
leads them to choose going on hunger strike. We urge the UN Secretary General, High Commissioner for Human Rights, and UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights to refer Ali Khamenei’s dossier to the international courts for trial to end the against humanity deeds of Iranian regime.
